Using Google's Picasa picture program with Windows it is possible to set up an excellent web site where invited friends can visit and view photograph album which have been uploaded to it. It works excellently with windows To enable a fried to view an invitation is sent via email.
Using Acer Aspire One with standard Linux program, the email is received inviting the viewing, but when I try to open the link I get the message "500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR". Has anyone any idea how to overcome this problem please, or is it simply that Picasa with not work with Linux?.

Picasa is supposed to be fully working in Linux, I will however investigate the error code for you .

On a slightly different but related topic relating to the Acer spire One. It has an SD Card slot reader, but when I put an SD card from my camera into it, contrary to using it in Windows, nothing happens. The computer obviously recognises it because when I take it out it acknowledges it is being taken out. Have searched through all the obvious options and cannot find a way of uploading the pictures from the card into one of the picture programmes. Can you assist please?.

There are two SD card slots, one on the left for storage and one on the right for general use. Use the one on the right, then go to the Documents screen, on the left you should see the Filesystem ( harddrive ) and the SD card both listed. Click on the SD card ( may be listed as something like 1GB media ) and see if a new window opens to show the contents, repeat with left hand slot if nothing happens.
Hope this helps
Happy new year !

Very many thanks Ade. I had no spotted the SD slot on the right hand side. Card in there and it was recognised. In my case Canon_DC showing amount free on card and described as Removable:///CANON_DC/DCIM/100CANON and pictures displayed quite clearly. I am now at a bit of loss as to how to save them on the computer. Have tried select all and created a document but that does not work. I am sure you point out something pretty obvious, but at the moment I cannot spot it. When I consider I know a fair bit about Windows I am a complete novice with Linux.

With Linux there is more than one way to skin a Cat! This may not be the best way, but it's what I do................ 1) Resize the SD card window so that it fills half the screen ( cursor to side of window until double arrow appears, then left click and drag to make smaller ). 2) Open the pictures window, and resize in the same way.
You can now drag/drop between the two !! ( just as you can in XP/Vista ) !

Many thanks I will give it a try.
Not exactly intuitive. I am very surprised there is not a more straightforward method considering all the accolades Linux gets for being intuitive.

I know what you mean ! There is a command line method, but it differs slightly from one version of Linux to another that's why I do it in a rather long-winded way that works regardless of which PC I'm using. One less thing to think about

Thanks Ade
Given the clue that there was no obvous way of saving them I used a similar method Copy/Paste into the Photoframe.
Not impressed! Who said Windows was dated?.

Who said Windows was dated? Not me ! There's good and bad Linux systems, and to be honest the one that comes with the Acer isn't one of the best ! I've installed Vista on mine, and have Ubuntu on one of my desktops As it happens, Ubuntu runs very well on the Aspire One, if you fancy a project for the new year help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne110LYou can always put Linpus back on if things don't work out !! No idea why the link isn't showing as a link.....just copy and paste to see how Ubuntu is installed !!!

Thanks for all your help. If I find a better way I'll let you know. I should persevere with Picasa I suppose that would be the complete answer, because in Windows it is really brilliant and probably the best around.
On the subject of these tablet computers I looked at the Medion one the other day, using XP. Very impressed and would probably have gone for that over the AA1 if |I had seen it earlier. Coupled with a Mobile Broadband I can't think of anything more useful.
Am currently awaiting (slow) delivery of the Vodafone PAYG Mobile Broadband and hoping it will live up to expectations. The main problem of course is once away from the principle areas of habitation there is not even a mobile signal, let alone sufficient for an internet connection.
