Looking at the available sub-boards, I suppose this ought to be in a new one of its own, but I leave that to the mod(s). www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57598554Leaving aside a relocated start button (which will no doubt end up with a legacy switch?), it appears to be same sh1t- new shovel (albeit with a minimum 4 gig ram requirement), but woo-hoo; we will be able to run Android apps from the desktop. It would be nice if that freed us from .DLL hell. I'm no expert but watching Android updates over the years they seem to follow 'nix principles and updates look like they're total swap outs. No more cross application reliance upon shared files? Could be "a thing"? e&oe ...

"While a very early build of Windows 11 had leaked, showcasing a refreshed look and a new name, we finally got to see the new user interface and new features officially.
While Microsoft had in the past said that Windows 10 was going to be the only version of its operating system for years to come, it's now been around for six years, and this new update brings significant features to help justify the jump to a new number."
That didn't last long Steve. Free upgrade or what?

Crucial no longer support the ram in my Compaq lappie. I'm already on eBay looking for a ram upgrade otherwise my banking laptop won't make the transition and hence the financial institution could conceivably withdraw fraud guarantees. Cheers Redmond.

This got me wondering if this new PC will run windows 11, I ran the PC health check app to see and it said no because of a TPM 2 issue. I checked in device manager and sure enough safe boot is disabled. Went into the BIOS and enabled safe boot and now we are ok to upgrade to 11 when it comes out.

That's Trusted Platform Module (or something like that) isn't it? I have a feeling at least my Lenovo might support that, but what's the betting none of my boxes have that "facility"? I think I recall reading that TPM is an on-chip CPU thing?
The banking lappy wouldn't start yesterday. I remembered that had I pulled the ram temporarily to confirm what it is before shelling out for new sticks, and a quick re-seat had me back in the saddle. All a waste of time though if it's going to fall at that TPM hurdle. Stop the bus- I want to get off!

I must admit Steve I had never heard of TPM never mind TPM now being 2. Apparently like you say its a chip on the MB.

The fact that I've heard of it suggests to me that at least one of my PCs has it although like you I wasn't aware of a version 2. Like you, I have it disabled in the BIOS. With the new EUFI (or whatever it's called) I thought that Windows took control and bypassed the BIOS? The migration away from BIOS was my swansong with PC fiddling nob.

Dunnow about windows taking charge Steve, it said windows 11 will not work on this because of the TPM being disabled.

AFAIK, EUFI (or UEFI?) is a replacement instruction set for the BIOS. It used to be that the BIOS acted as a go between for the operating system and the machine code that the hardware understands. I think I recall reading somewhere that with the newer system, the operating systems are now able to issue instructions that are understood by the hardware. This may be why Windows is now leveraging the Trusted Platform Module- just because it now can? Isn't it great when you get semi informed armchair experts holding forth on internet forums!

Thanks for that Steve as long as it works BIOS or not suits me. But it states at start up press Del for BIOS and the other options and associated buttons. Windows 10 supported till 2025.

Déjà vu.
Still informative though maybe a tad dispiriting?
Fair play he knows it's UEFI though. Me- I've been reading "EU" for too long on this forum!

Woo hoo. Windoze 11 needs TPM V2.0 and the silly hippy's Lenovo is struggling along at V1.2. A perfectly good machine that greatly exceeds all other "system requirements". No chance of a BIOS flash for that even if it indicates missing hardware because Lenovo can't be alone in having no incentive to support past punters. Stop the senseless merry-go-round- I think I finally want to get off.
Anyone who wants to worship at the Gates of mediocrity and delude themselves it represents calm and mature constructive cooperation, well fill yer byütz. I've wasted far too much of my time watching egg timers over the decades. I followed the M$ links and downloaded the suggested support tool, but guess what? "Can't complete installation, another installation is in progress. Cancel, Y/N?" I forget my workaround for that ATM. Utter utter crap.
I wonder whether the Lenovo lappy will play ball? I can guarantee that the Compaq I have dedicated to banking won't.
