I'm no petrol head nob so I don't know what an SLK is, but Mercedes used to do an SLC so I'm guessing it was a Merc?
All new motors have a reassuring clunk when you close the doors etc, but only cars like Mercs continue to do that ten years down the line. I still can't accept the scrapping of my 1988 Saab 900i.

Yes Steve a two seater Merc, German engineering goes without saying two bolts were one will do.

If I'd known that eight months later I'd be out on my arse with a decent payoff, I'd have held onto my Saab and had it fixed up. Bl**dy S.O.R.N! With a clutch gone you can't get a ticket, so although without an MOT it is technically uninsured, you can't leave it out the front on't road. Especially when you live next door to a plod, decent as he is.

Received my headlamp from Eire today and installed it in the sunshine. It was brandy new in the box and covered with cling film to ward off scratches. Or so I thought. During installation a rubber gasket fell off and needed to be stuck back on with cyano. Then, after installation when removing the cling film, I noticed that it has a crack right on the nearside outboard curved profile. Now I'm going to hang my hat on it being a friday afternoon factory cock up in Korea rather than yer man in Dublin because it looked ex-works to me.
I had to wait until it was dark to aim the beams and then the fun started. The nearside lamp (today's install) was a breeze and only needed a tweak and it was p1ss easy. Offside, hmmm. The moronic sl0pes provided for a washer jet reservoir filler neck right in front of the crown wheel adjuster. Same conduit that makes "bulb" replacement nigh-on impossible. Unbelievably, it was exactly the same configuration in BB's earlier model 1999 Almera. (The silly Hippy wrote that one off!) After much cursing, I decided to remove a relay housing to gain some (restricted) access. Just two bolts. My imperial socket set was no good because 7/16 is too large and 3/8 is too small for what turned out to be 10mm, which I should have realised. So I burrowed down in the mountain of junk in the shed in the pitch black and returned with a socket. One bolt was easy. The other I couldn't get the thing on with the short extension. I had to use a knuckle joint FFS. (Same in reverse putting it back.) Even after that, I could only swivel the relay box slightly due to a captive foot which I had no wish to break off. What saved the day (as usual) was my 16-odd inches long Snap-On No. 2 Phillips that I could (just about) get on and turn between thumb and first two fingers. It took me significantly over 100 quarter turns- I lost count as well as the will to live. Bottom line- it came in at under a ton all-in but if I'd taken it to Nissan, I'm guessing the lion's share of £300 for each headlamp assembly, a couple of hundred labour and add on the VAT, you've got half a holiday in the sun (when we can go that is!) Greece it is then.
The reason I write all this is because my B-I-L who wrenches motors for a living assures me that the headlamps must be easily adjustable as part of an MOT inspection. Clearly there's a lot of Nissan Almeras with technically bent MOTs? Ours for one. Well it's fixed now and a quick spin up the road confirmed the vast improvement. I can't be ar5ed to go out after midnight when the council kills the street lighting to faciliate the 24 none-more-blue Surrey County Councillors with a salary north of £100K, and that's just the high rollers ...

Ah well Steve I bet your councillors don't fix their own cars. Don't forget to vote on the 6th May.

We had voter forms but unless we're due for any more, they're just for the Surrey Constabulary Commissioner nob. And there's us domiciled in Middlesex too.

We got a voter form Steve and they give us multiple voting slips for council and police commissionaire when we arrive, at least they did for local councillors and EU MPs. I'm assuming it will be the same this time.

I just needed to read the forms properly nob. Police Commissioner was in bold with a slightly larger typeface. Councillor elections was just below. Still, plenty of exercise jumping to conclusions!
