The Autumn Creators Update (referred to as Feature Update to Windows 10 Version 1709) is now available by doing a manual update check.

Good idea.
Mine cr4pp3d out after about 2.5 hours with a blue screen offering me about 8 choices of how to restart, none of which worked and advising me that my hardware needs to be repaired. WTF?
I did what any sane person would do, I pulled the big switch. It restarted OK, so much for hardware needing repair, but winver still shows old version 1703. What else can you do but start again, The failed update left me a "Windows Update Assistant" icon on the desktop so I went for it. Microsoft insisted on downloading the whole shooting match a second time and here I am after 2 hours stuck looking at a "Getting your update ready" screen wedged into position at 90%.
Microsoft? Why should I be surprised? This is like groundhog day. I've had other "Creators" updates with no trouble so it's Bill's bilge. I wish I'd left it on W7 really because I'm still unfamiliar with the layout. Scrolling is app dependent which is a fag. Oh well, I expect it'll get there eventually. Maybe.
I can't sit here looking at this POS any longer. Once I would have seen it through but these days- MEH. Whoa! it's just moved to 91%...
Edit: It's finished. That took from about 3 o-clock this afternoon until just now- 11-30pm.

I have now done 10 machines. Only one problem experienced (on the oldest machine) which needed the display driver reinstalling from AMD to get 1920 x 1080. All other went absolutely to plan and took around 2-3 hours. The install does seem to stick at around 85-90% but it is actually still working so leaving it alone completes the install without any problem.

I'm not certain but I reckon it creates a new registry with each update nob because every time I install a "Creators" update, it replaces all the icon shortcut arrows that I've removed and which I then have to remove again. I can't see it searching for missing shortcut arrows to replace.

Hello Guys [No I have not snuffed it] but can you tell me what an autumn creators update is, and do I need it and if so how do get it. My old W7 went for a burton and I am still struggling with W10 cheers Microsoft in their wisdom decided that updates in Windows 10 would be different to previous versions. I(n fact there will be no future versions of Windows just continual updates to whatever is the current version. The original version was issued in 2015 and again updated in 2016. The penultimate update was in March 2017 (Creatrors Update). The latest update is the Autumn Creator's update issued last week. This updates your Win 10 version to 1708 (16299.19). If you want to keep your installation up to date then just accept the situation. In actual fact the updates in Win 10 are no longer voluntary and will take place even if you don't really want them to do so. There are workarounds for this but frankly it seems pointless as the updates include protection against the latest security holes. Keep struggling with Win 10, it will be worth it in the long run and it is not that much different to Win 7 when you get into it.

I cant find any ref to windows update. belarc advisor says I am version 1703 but you seem to be up to 1708 and you also seem to be updating it yourself whereas I thought it was automatic now.

Sorry I mistyped the version. It should be 1709. Yes it is automatic however this sometimes takes a long time before your machine is selected by MS to be updated. This is to prevent MS server overloads. There is a workaround. You can download the update executable file and force the update. It is "Windows10Upgrade9252.exe" and can be downloaded from MS go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445It is a 6MB download which starts the update process by downloading the latest version. Any subsequent updates are then auto installed after the update is completed.
