Afternoon squatters. Can anyone point me in the direction of a 'driver updater tool' which actually does what it says. I had to do a system restore on my old PC (Win7) and I'm really stuck for the monitor driver. It's an AOC monitor and it's AOC2216Vw driver I need. I tried one tool and shelled $29.99 ( whatever that is in real money) only to get the wrong driver. I've no problem paying for something as long as I get what I need. I'm currently tearing my hair out so any help will be greatly appreciated. Yours baldy axe victim

I usually go to device manager and find the item, monitor in your case, then right click, properties driver tab and update driver let it look on the internet.

Hi Lads, Thanks for the replies. I had already tried both of those suggestions before posting on here. The 'link' doesn't download, and when you follow the link to a site you don't get any further. Tried device manager, and it says it is using the best driver, which is a plug and play, and I know that before I did the system restore ( did I mention that before?) it was an AOC driver. Ive emailed AOC in Malaysia or wherever to see if they can help, but I'm not too hopeful. I keep getting ads for Driver Detective and other Driver Update software companies, but all they want to do is fleece me without getting me the right driver. Hence the reason I asked the professionals (you lot). Any thoughts please let me know. Im going mad as the screen size wont alter, and Mr Magoo would be able to see it from 2 miles away.

Morning chaps. Bob Ive been on that site and it doesn't have the driver I need. The first list directs you to another list which does not feature the one I want. Nob I cant alter the screen size from settings. I'm at default (100%) and its like really ..really large. I can hardly see the reply button on this page. As I was writing this reply the screen went blank for the umpteenth time and the PC crashed.

'fraid not I went right back to factory settings. Im now at the stage (dont laugh) of thinking about buying (a) a new monitor...something very big as I watch lots of DVDs (connect through the HDMI) or a new PC as I don't know whether the original fault was due to this bag of bolts (my PC) or even both.......

Posted this about an hour ago but for some reason it does not seem to be here.
Why do you actually want the specific driver. If the current default one allows you the resolution and refresh rate then there is no advantage in installing a custom one which only really sets things like max resolution etc. If it is working then just leave it as it is would be my advice. All the drivers do is install a file with the info.
See the below for a bit more info with thanks to original poster who's name I have lost over the years:-
Change Monitor EDID Settings
I'm going to answer this even though it's over three years after the original question was asked.
I ran into this problem recently, and I came across what I believe is a pretty ideal solution. The instructions in the link are pretty clear, but I'm going to post an edited list because there were a few missing steps and some minor inaccuracies:
1. Download Phoenix.zip and extract it to a working folder.
2. Run it and click the "Extract Registry EDID" toolbar button.
3. A list of monitors should appear.
4. Try to find the monitor that matches the monitor that is giving you problems.
5. Review the settings, and if they don't match the actual capabilities of the monitor, perform steps 6-9 (otherwise, skip to step 10).
6. Click the pencil toolbar button for edit mode.
7. Change the EDID settings to reflect you display's true capabilities.
8. Pay special attention to the Standard Timings tab.
9. Detailed Timing blocks 2-4 provide some very interesting additional options.
10. Save the EDID to a .DAT file in your working folder.
11. Download moninfo.exe and install it.
12. Open the saved .DAT with MonInfo and make sure it doesn't complain about it.
13. If it does post here for help.
14. If MonInfo reads in and displays the settings the way you configured them in Phoenix then...
15. Select "Create INF..." from the file menu and save it to your working folder.
16. Feel free to edit the strings in the INF to your liking. [Note: I didn't understand this step and ended up just ignoring it, but I'm leaving it in just in case it helps someone.]
17. Open Start, type "devmgmt.msc", and press Enter.
18. Select the monitor you want to change (in my case, it was "Generic Non-PNP Monitor").
19. Right click and select Update Driver Software.
20. Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
21. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
22. Click Have Disk...
23. Browse to the INF file in your working folder.
24. Click next to override with your new INF.
25. Restart your computer and enjoy your new resolution!

I have had two AOC monitors (19" & 26") and have never had to install a driver.
How's about holding down the control key and rolling the mouse wheel? Would that work or am I completely off track? (it does happen!)

Same here. I never worry about the monitor driver as the default usually works fine. The usual problem with resolution etc is usually part of the Video Card driver.
