That's very decent of you since I hijacked your thread mojo. Mea culpa! Any drinkers still have a Red Barrel key ring? I still have an Esso man key ring (Not original mind, an 80s reissue) and he must have done over a quarter of a million miles with me in various vehicles, the Saab 900 being the latest (although I've had that for 24 years now) e&oe Got some Courage cockerel pin badges somewhere. I had some tiger tails from when put a tiger in your tank was on telly.

Thinking back, there was one that I liked very much many years ago. It was back when I was still with wifey number one. We often used to go out to this country pub with my mate and his missus for a meal, it was a 'Davenport's' pub and they had this brew on called 'Davenport's Drum Bitter'......it was absolutely delish!

I can also remember "Davenports Drum Bitter" and yes it was a cracking pint. They didn't have many pubs this far up the country but i recall a couple in Nottingham that we frequented, they were down The Meadows near the gun factory. Think Davenports were taken over by Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries which are now part of Marston's. "Everard's Tiger Bitter", that's a blast from the past not heard of it or supped any for many a year but i always thought it was a decent pint, my very first pint of Tiger was in "The Three Nuns" Loughbourgh. Dave, did Everard's brew a bottled light ale i think it was called "Lunch Ale" or summat like that but i may have it mixed up with another light ale made by "Home Brewery" .

Geoff, I don't ever recall a "Lunch Ale".... But as I don't drink bottled ale then I probably wouldn't remember it anyway!
Everards is a local brewery situated at 'Fosse Park' The main bitters in my local pub (as in the nearest to me) are 'Beacon' ...'Tiger' ... 'Sunchaser' and 'Old Original'
I haven't tried the 'Sunchaser' but Greebo is parsh to a pint of it!

Thinking about it i reckon Home Brewery made the "Lunch Ale". I remember many years ago being in a fishing match at Long Eaton, it was on the canal there, back in the days when canals were full of old bikes etc. TBH I thought that it was some kind of wind-up when we arrived there on the coach, it was an horrible place......but there was a pub by the bridge! I gave it until lunchtime, then I said "sod this, watch my kit lads I'm off to the pub!" So I rocked up to this pub, looked around and some old fella was supping a pint of what at first looked like guiness, I asked him what it was "It's the mild ale" sez he! I ordered a pint and sit down, around 20mins later several of the other lads come in "What's that yer drinking Rats"..it's the mild fellas, it's spot on. Three hours later it's time for the weigh in, the match has ended. We leave the pub, how the hell any of us managed to pack our kit up without falling in the canal I don't know, we were all over the place. That was a 'Home Ales' pub, never forgot how lovely that Home ales mild was back then.

Home Ales was good beer but after a gallon it tended to give me heartburn .

I'm gonna write to Everard's, and demand that they bring out a 'Wascally Wabbit' brew!

A real ale pub in Chester (forget the name of it for some reason...must be getting old) has a blackboard with the names of the guest ales. Under the lager category is "I can't believe it's not piss"
Said pub doesn't sell lager!
