Hello. As some of you know, I've recently had a new combi boiler installed and at the same time. the workmen removed the wall mounted gas fire.
Well, I've been thinking of buying an free standing electric fire as a replacement.
Do any drinkers have any experience with electric fires? Are they any good, how much heat do the give out?
Thanks for any advice.
Craig.

I mean, all of that spare coal you Taffs have hanging about, thanks to that great Lady who's name I'm not fit to whisper (Maggie)....Yep, every Taff should be made to have a coal fire, after all, that's what Taffs are for....digging coal!

Hi CJ
Get a gas heater about £100 from B&Q then go to a gas supplier and get a 15Kg Butane Gas Cylinder £32.99 that'll be the cheapest. plus they are 100% better now than they used to be as they used to dry up the air in the room but not now with these new gas fires.

Hi all. Thanks for the advice. Will have to decide between what Nob & Jal said.
Ratares, not sure if this chimney could be re=opened for coal, besides coals too dirty.
Craig.

That is by far the best option, much warmer, and much cheaper than a 3kw fan heater, which will eat money.

the one we had when I was a kid made lovely toast ! I was 12 when we finally had power installed, just towns gas and parafin lamps 'til then. Yep, corporal punishment was still allowed back then; that brand new, hard earned, 2-bar leccy fire with the coal effect front didn't appreciate a toasting fork being shoved in its element.

How can you call my butty a `Taff` he lives miles away from the Taff river, as a matter of fact he lives 70 miles away from the Taff. Call him what you like but never a Taff. Roy

I use a halogen electric heater as backup. It is small, has no fan but has good heat output and is cheap to run at about 10p per hour. www.halogenheaters.org.uk/

I do have a fireplace gas fire, haven't turned it on in eight years. Pretty enough...but next to useless for chucking out heat. In emergency, the plan is to phone the folks that I have a contract with (24hrs call out) and sod off to the pub .... where it's always warm! Fixed

I also have and recommend a decent electrical oil filled radiator. You can set it for the thermostat only, or timer only, or 1 kw or 2 kw.
