Do you have a water meter? If not get one....We had one installed in July and have just been assessed as to our monthly payments for the next 12 months. Before we had a meter we were paying just over £37 a month..now we are paying £17 a month..Thats over £240 a year less !!! We haven't really done anything different since we had the meter fitted...well apart from getting washed in the water butt

Would not work for us at the moment. All 3 kids are still at home, works out that we are 5 adults + boyfreinds and girlfreinds. When the brats have flown the coop, then will be the time.

We've had one Phil since 1998 saved us quite a bit of money over the years.

We don't have individual water rates over here--at least not yet.We pay for water within our household rates ,based on the rateable value of our house.Don't know if I fancy a water meter though.Possibly I would--as an old miser--limit flushing the lavatory per day.No1 s of course No2 s would be flushed immediately !

Yes, we have had one for a lot of years, and have saved a considerable amount being as there is generally only the two of us here. My one stipulation when it was proposed was that the garden would still get watered when it needed it, and we did flush the loo At first my skinflint mate started emptying his bathwater onto the garden but believe me that didn't last too long

Had one for all water and had the Yorkshire water part of it removed, too many in the house to save money on water usage. Its still read as the waste water for Trent water we drink Yorkshire water but flush Trent water. When the kids finally piss off Ill consider all the water going back on it.

Yep...had one fitted about 10/12 years ago, after a workmate told me how much he'd saved. With me living alone in a three bed house, it was costing me almost £40 pm.....It's now down to £11 summat pm. One of the best moves I ever made.

I have had a water meter installed since 1992 when I became the Project Manager (Metering) for a large water company. Ask if your water supplier allows meters to be installed and if you subsequently pay more than by the rateable value method (after one year) do they allow you to revert back. The company I worked for did. Also, for low water users generally some companies have a "So-low" tariff whereby there is no standing charge but the unit cost is slightly higher. My wife and I are on this tariff where we live and the break-even point is 75 M3 water usage per annum. Saves us a lot of money!

I have one fitted to a property I rent as its a 1 bed flat which saves the tenant a lot, but I declined as I did use a lot of water with my microbore watering system on my hanging baskets and borders.
Then there was the washing of cars, plus we had 5 living in the household at the time.
I should have a rethink as there is only two of us now and the hanging baskets and flower borders are long gone. Problem with our Water Board, they will not allow you to revert back.

The water companies should be made like the energy suppliers to compete for your custom. Not as it is now and you live in one area you are supplied by a water company.

I'm surprised the Monopoly Board hasn't looked at it, but then again it's only a game to them
