Two things here; I use a Kindle and I like it because I can create PDF files on websites and read them later on the Kindle because it displays PDF files as well as it's native MOBI format.
The other point is a free PC program named Calibre which will read (and convert if you need to) every type of e book format.

a few of the ebook reader apps i've installed on nexus7, Kindle reader, FBReader, Aldiko, Cool Reader and Alreader. they all use a couple or more of the ebook formats. but the kindle still rates highly.
