OK, so I downloaded some film's off the web and bunged them on to a DVD, but know I want to put them on to an external HHD, but I keep getting the message that I need permission from all users, even though I'm the only person who uses this lappy.
Any ideas how I can copy the films?
Thanks.
Craig.

Are you trying to copy the DVD? If so try copying the contents of the root directory of the DVD.

"Hi Banjo, it's my own blank DVD & want to copy the files on it."
Sorry Craig, I thought you meant that you wanted to copy the files on it to an external HDD.
DVD-R right? Have you tried using the Windows <send to> option that appears when you right click the file(s) and selecting <DVD> drive? This spools the list of files and when you are ready you select <burn these files> and off it should go.
This is OK if you are just copying files to a blank disc for watching on a PC, but it may not be any use if you want to play the film in a (typically older) domestic DVD player. That will require a few more flaming hoops to jump through.
You can't just copy and paste onto that DVD.
Craig.

Banjo, I meant to say I want to copy the video files from the DVD disk to my external HHD. Sorry for the mix up.
Davey boy, the files are a mix of formats.
Fletch, the files are on a DVD not the C drive. And my name show's up in the security on that one.
Thanks for your help guy's.
Craig.

hi craig, I'm guessing theres a program open if you veiwed one or more of the dvds. this can prevent you from copying the files elsewhere. close anything thats open and try again. restart the laptop can help as well pullin the dvd out of the drawer and popping it in again.
apart from that have the originl files been deleted? if so, restore from the bin and copy from there to the external drive

Hi Postman, I did all you said, still the same. Not in the bin as I DL the films last year. Craig. oh dear, craig. we just need to figure out if the dvd is unsound or your permissions are restricted on windows. if you have access to another machine, pop the dvd in and try the same task of copying the files to the external drive. this will tell you if you have a duff dvd.

I have installed the, 'Take Ownership' files which adds to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7. can overide admin faults. get the file from here, www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/read about it, here www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.htmltheres also the god mode file www.askvg.com/how-to-add-windows-7-god-mode-icon-in-control-panel-and-my-computer-window/hth

Hi Nob. Photo's and video's I've downloaded direct to the desktop copy fine to the external HHD.
I tried copying the files from the DVD to the desktop & then to the external HDD, but got the same message, so I've downloaded the films again and then put them on the external HDD.
Thanks for all the help guys.
Craig.
