Am I the only one that trawls through the FREE sections of apps?. I try to remember to do this every few weeks, if something catches my fancy, I install it, try it out and depending how it appeals, whether or not I keep it. I've never paid for an app and don't intend to either.
Do you have a favourite app? and if so, why not share it with us.

We all like a freebie- especially when it's lunch, but there is no such. The vast majority of "free" apps come with an advertising overhead, and I don't like ads!
This is all very well to confirm that there is no issue with the app and your chosen hardware platform, but so many of the apps are so inexpensive that it seems to me to be churlish to avoid paying. Micro$oft have maintained their punitive charging systems whilst hardware has spiralled down in both price and real terms, and they are to be justifiably reviled for that approach. (but any company exists to make a profit and Google (for example) are even more profligate.) I don't know why anyone would expect devs to beaver away writing apps for no reward at all. They have gas bills too and in all probability are standing unidentified in the queue at the bar for a drink. I'm all for a freebie now and again too, but I wouldn't wallow with pride in being able to totally avoid stumping up for all my apps, especially when they are generally so extraordinarily inexpensive compared to Bill's Redmond bilge. $0.02 etc. and other opinions no doubt carry equal merit, just not for me. I have a quota of free apps on my devices, but if they start to stream ads to me (like photobucket for example) I look for an alternative, and if there is one I'll switch in a heart beat even if there is a (reasonable) cost associated. Perhaps I'm lucky enough to be in a position to be able to spare the price of a lottery ticket or half a pint now and then for the odd app or two, but if one can afford a "smart" 'phone or tablet, I reckon one ought to be similarly placed. Yep, been drinking at home again! Favourite app? Audio Evolution on Android.

Well well well Banjo, put like that I feel you are right. Maybe my thoughts on this need to be changed?. In fact for the record, when I've sorted myself out with this new ipad, I might look at trying a paid for version of something I really use frequently. When and if I do go along this route, presumably I can do it via paypal?, and if so, how do you stop payments if and when you choose?.

I've paid for one app, which was to become a premium member of Geocaching which gave me advantages over the free app. I paid by paypal on a yearly basis, no contract but I don't know whether they are all like that. When I stopped using the app, I just stopped paying

Sorry cuba, I had no right to lecture anyone let alone yourself, but as I wrote- I'd been on the "Spingo" from the "Blue Anchor" in Helston, Cornwall and that's not for the feint hearted! So more kudos to you for not biting my head off as others may justifiably have done in the same circumstances. I'm on Android anyway so couldn't speak for i-stuff! On Android, you have to create a Google account (which is not without its faults...) and with a linked card it's almost too easy to buy apps... Audio Evolution is a cracking multi channel recording app for the Android platform and really takes away one of the distinct advantages that Apple had with "Garage Band". The Android Proboards app is very well worth it. A one off chicken feed payment and no more soddin' adverts! Yippee! Jess sayin' like!

Very good Banjo, a most admirable quality I'm sure. Oddly enough, it's one that's completely alien to me. Yup, to my shame, I pursue a policy of "seen it, liked it, nicked it" I wouldn't admit to "wallowing with pride" about this, probably more like, 'smirking' with pleasure' Yup, smirking sounds about right. ratae the lacking of conscience

It's nice to know there's something you can rely upon in this ever changing world! All I know is that when everything else goes pear shaped, you'll be one of the survivors Rats!
