Carole aught to be telling you how well you're doing. Go on Carole, give him some encouragement!! Yes it does get easier....you may stop smoking but it takes years before you can say you've given it up.

I think you would be better with the sound off Geoff Tried many many times to pack it in, I was a thirty a day man. Never lasted more than 3 days. Then, about 28 years ago, I just stopped. I didn't mean to, I wasn't even thinking of trying but the urge to light up just disappeared. It was weeks before I finally admitted to myself, and my pals, that I'd packed it in. I've never had the urge for a fag again, although I can vividly remember where I was and the actual moment that I 'clipped' my last ciggy and tossed it away. It was probably one of the luckiest, and one of the best moments of my life. Hang in there Geoff, if you can do cold turkey, then your a better man than I was pal.

I have never smoked but the wife has tried everything. The funniest one was when one of the doctors at the surgery started to do accupuncture to stop smoking. As we came out of the docs, we met one of her friends. Missus started chatting with friend, and the subject came up about accupncture to stop smoking. Well the treatment involved putting a small plaster with an embedded needle on an earlobe, when she felt like a fag she had to pinch said needle to give her a little jab. As they were chatting friend asked why she was in the docs. The reply was I have just been to see the doctor to get a little prick in the ear to stop smoking. Then she wondered why I was pissing myself laughing. When I explained what she said I got a slap round the ear, still did'nt stop me laughing. Needless to say it was another failure, she has tried everything since, still failures.

Stick with it Geoff. Like Dave I packed in 28 years ago, (29 in July) and I always feel lucky to have done so. I can also remember where I was etc. I'm an ex-smoker (and still counting!) and that's the next best thing to being a non- smoker in my book. If you do see it through, you'll come to understand what we mean. It'll be like a Damascine conversion. I bet a work mate a jacks that I'd give it up. He welched. During the first 10 years or so, it wasn't so much a fag I wanted- I just wanted to roll one up! Even that need disappeared eventually. I reckon that I'm on the ball here in stating that we're all rootin' for you, so in that sense you're not on your own.

Yep, I was told it took about 9yrs for it to clear. What the hell do you mean you were told ratarse? 29 years ago you stopped smoking so you know how long you still hankered after a fag. I gave up after 44 years of smoking on the day they banned smoking in pubs June 2007. I did it cold turkey going from about 35 a day to zilch. Geoff believe me you are going through what I went through early on every day you stay off makes it harder the next day. But suddenly you'll find your brain has accepted you're not going to smoke anymore and it gets a bit easier. Over the next 3 or 4 months your I must have a fag times really start to disappear and you are beginning to believe you are winning. 7 years later and I've no desire to light up at all, maybe the extra money in my bank account plays a part and waking up in the morning without wheezing also helps. Geoff stick at it then take your wife on a lovely summer holiday on the money you've saved.
