I am sorry to say that I gave up trying to get Skype working on my AA1 and want to have another try. Are you aware of any step by step instructions on the subject please.

Now managed to create a new Skype account which was accepted and test call worked. However when I try to sign in with the correct user name and password I get "Sign in Failed" followed by in red " Another Skype instance may exist". Have tried getting a Skype token and changing password, which was again accepted, but same result when I tried to sign in. Any ideas please.

You can get Skype direct from Acer now. support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_one_150.htmlCan you tell me what you've done so far to try installing ? , , , Forget the above as I now see you've installed Skype ! I'll get back to you after I've lokked up something that may help !

many thanks still getting the same problem despite telling me that the password has been successfully changed. Frustrating but getting a little closer. Managed to put a Skype icon on the desktop, but what a complicated proceedure compared with Windows. I sometimes cannot see what people get excited about with Linux.

Have emailed Skype because I think this may be a problem that only they can resolve. Many thanks I will keep you posted.

Check this out www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1612, It will allow you to switch from the Acer to a standard XFCE desktop. From there you can add something similar to the windows "Task Manager" to the bottom panel. which will let you shut down duplicate running processes with ease ! , You can also have whatever wallpaper you want

Unfortunately it did not work for me. I was transferred to a german site and when I tried to extract it failed. Thanks for the suggestion I can see it would be useful.

I think you need to post on the Acer forum because the standard taskbar is locked. This makes it a real pain adding extra icons But with the XFCE panel it should just happen !

What I am finding is that when I first switch AA1 on, slick the newly installed Skype icon, it connects to Skype. If I then close that down and repeat I get the message "another Skype instance may exist". If I then close the AA1 down and reboot it again connects to Skype the first time, but then reverts to the "another Skype instance may exist". Any ideas please?

Thanks anyway for being so patient. I have spent ages trying to sort this out. I am at the stage now where an outward Skype call can be made when the AA1 is first booted up. Any subsequent attempt ends with the "another Skype instance may exist" until I reboot and it works OK. The odd thing is that an incoming Skpe call registers immediately. I am current still waiting for Skype to respond to my email in the hope that they can cast some light on it. Your suggestion regarding the XFCE woiuld probably have helped if there was a dupicate programme running. Howevere hoping to circumvent that in another way I deleted the earlier Skype references and reinstalled it, but the problem remains. Who said computers were easy even now.
